Battle of the Moisturizers: Part I

Here I have another skincare post for you guys! 🙂 I will be talking about 4 different moisturizers: 2 oil-free moisturizers & 2 cream moisturizers. I titled this post “Part I” because I will be reviewing many more different kinds/types/brands in the future!

The 4 moisturizers I chose for this post are as follows: Céleteque Facial Moisturizer (with Triple Moisturizing System), COSRX Aloe Vera Oil-Free Moisture Cream, Etude House True Relief Moist Cream & COSRX Honey Ceramide Full Moisture Cream.

I chose these four moisturizers because I feel that I have been using them long enough to be able to review them. You might be wondering though… “Why does she have so amny moisturizers???” Well, it’s cause it took me a long while to find the right one. My skin is the combination type and so some areas are dry and some are oily. This really frustrates me because it’s like??? What am I supposed to use then??? I’ll put one kind on my t-zone and another kind on the rest of my face??? Isn’t that a hassle? Yeah, it is when you think about it. Buuuuut I’m really happy because I found the right one for me! And therefore, I don’t need to go through that hassle. (I’ll tell you later which one it or better yet, “they” are 😉

Anyway, first, let’s talk about the importance of moisturizers. I’m sure you’ve heard that when it comes to putting together a simple skincare routine, only 3 steps are really necessary: Cleanse, Tone & Moisturize. Those are the three basic steps in any skincare routine. And so is moisturizing your skin really important? The answer is YES. Not only does a moisturizer moisturize or hydrate your skin, it also somehow acts as a protective barrier for your skin as it holds water. Moisturizers are also very very important to those who have dry or sensitive skin- it soothes & improves your complexion. It gives your skin the glow it deserves. I mean, who wouldn’t want glowy beautiful skin? And so next time you think about skipping the moisturizer step in your daily skincare routine cause you’re lazy or in a rush, don’t. Or you’ll regret it later. For sure. Also, I’d like to add a short note on being sanitary when it comes to moisturizers especially moisturizers that come in a tub. Many moisturizers like that nowadays come with a spatula. USE THE SPATULA. That way it won’t get contaminated. Don’t forget that the dirtiest part of your body are your fingers. Once dirt/bacteria gets into that tub, it’ll be hard getting it out.

Mmmm but hey, are you having a hard time picking the right moisturizer for you? Maybe this post will help! These 4 moisturizers are very accessible and affordable so no need to worry!

By the way, I’m using the same criteria I used for the oil/water cleansers post! Packaging,, Effectiveness (if it really does what it says it does), Moisturizing skills and Price.

Let’s get to the review! I’ll start off with the Oil-free gel like moisturizers!

***Recommended for Oily skin/Sensitive skin types***

1. Céleteque Facial Moisturizer with Triple Moisturizing System

This is a water-based oil-free moisturizer! This is a very gentle brand and so it’s good for all of you who have sensitive skin. Since this is an oil-free and water-based moisturizer, it’s best for oily type skin because it’s not cream-based and so it moisturizes your skin but doesn’t “over moisturize” it.

This moisturizer in particular is very “wet” when you squeeze it out of the bottle, meaning it’s very watery and slippery (as you can see in the photo below)

When I took this picture, it was actually dripping down my hand. When spread, it takes a while to be absorbed. My skin felt very wet and slippery until it was fully absorbed which took a pretty long time. Just a note: If you were to use this moisturizer before putting on make-up, you should wait a few minutes or else, your foundation would slip and slide hahaha

This is what it looked like after I spread the product all over my hand. As you can see, it’s very wet and shiny and so like I said, give it time to be absorbed. I would recommend this moisturizer to those with oily/sensitive skin. It may look a bit wet but once it’s absorbed, it really does moisturize the skin. For me, I personally just don’t like how wet it feels on my skin and so this isn’t my go-to moisturizer but hey, if it works for you, it works for you!

Packaging: 8/10

Effectiveness: 7/10

Moisturizing skills: 8/10

Price: 10/10

You can get this in PCX for P231!

2. COSRX Aloe Vera Oil-free Moisture Cream

This is another Oil-free moisture cream that I really like. This is my go-to oil-free moisture cream because it isn’t too watery but isn’t “over-moisturizing” either. Plus the Aloe Vera in this product works to soothe the skin especially if it’s irritated or red. And I can tell you it does just that!

As you can see, this moisturizer isn’t as watery as the first. When I put it on my hand, it wasn’t dripping, it stayed put. And so I’d describe this as more of a gel-type moisturizer.

Compared to the first moisturizer I tested, this was absorbed much faster thus it isn’t as shiny as you can see in the photo above. I recommend this moisturizer to those of you who have oily/sensitive skin. This product really soothes irritated skin and so when I’m having bad breakouts, this is my go-to moisturizer. I also use this as my regular morning moisturizer because it’s easily absorbed and therfore I don’t have to wait long until I can apply my make-up.

Packaging: 7/10 (tubs are hard to keep sanitary)

Effectiveness: 9/10

Moisturizing skills: 8.5/10

Price: 8/10 (it’s a bit pricey but I think it’s worth it)

You can buy this on the COSRX website, skincarecurator.com or from other instagram stores for varied prices that sell kbeauty products!

Let’s move on to the cream based moisturizers!

*** Recommended for those with dry/sensitive/combination skin types***

3. Etude House True Relief Moist Cream

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

This is a cream-based moisturizing cream. I bought this last year because my skin was getting really dry for some strange reason and it got to the point when I just wanted to peel everything off and so I rushed to look for most moisturizing cream I could find and this was the one I ended up buying. Note: these kinds of moisturizers are very good for people with dry skin because it gives enough moisture to get rid of the dry patches/ares on your face.

As you can see from the photo above, it is very thick, almost like a paste. I was kind of hesitant to put this on my whole face especially my t-zone because of the thickness. I was afraid it would clog my pores and so I decided to only put it on my dry patches.

It worked to hydrate those dry patches but I wouldn’t say this is a miracle moisturizer- meaning, it’s a moisturizer I wouldn’t mind replacing (which I did). I just felt that it was too heavy on my skin and not the good kind of heavy. Yeah, it moisturized my dry patches but if there were a better option (which I know there is), I would let go of this one for sure.

Packaging: 7/10 (tubs are hard to keep sanitary)

Effectiveness: 7/10 (it moisturizes but clogs pores)

Moisturizing skills: 8.5/10

Price: 6/10 (super expensive and not super worth it if you ask me)

You can buy this at Etude House for P1,348!

4. COSRX Honey Ceramide Full Moisture Cream

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

This is actually what I replaced True Relief with. I wasn’t satisfied with it (True Relief) and I knew there was something better and so I did some research and I found this. And to be honest, I am sooo happy I did! Like the previous moisturzer, this is a cream-based one. But the consistency is different compared to True Relief.

It’s kind of hard to explain the consistency of this product. It’s much stickier compared to the other one but less thick. When I apply it on my face, it feels a bit weird at first because of the stickiness but after a while, the feeling goes away. That’s what I like about this moisturizer. It seems thick and really moisturizes your skin but it’s very lightweight.

This is the kind of thick moisturizer that I am not afraid to use all over my face. I actually use this every night (It’s a bit to heavy to use during the day). When I wake up, my skin feels very hydrated and moisturized (after applying this, I always put on my sleeping pack).

The two main ingredients in this product that I really think are stellar are honey and ceramide. Honey really works to moisturize and soothe my skin while ceramide works to keep the moisture locked in as well as the skin firm and healthy. I would recommend this moisturizer for those with dry/combination/sensitive skin. This has caused me no breakouts whatsoever. It’s very gentle and it really does its job!

Packaging: 7/10 (tubs are hard to keep sanitary)

Effectiveness: 10/10 (YAS)

Moisturizing skills: 10/10

Price: 8/10 (not the best price but 100% worth it)

You can buy this on the COSRX website, skincarecurator.com or from other instagram stores for varied prices that sell kbeauty products!
